In a strategic response to the critical shortage of skilled bartenders in Bermuda, The Bermuda Chamber of Commerce’s Restaurant Division brought together key stakeholders impacted by the shortage of bartenders. This included representatives from restaurants, distributors, the BIU, Bermuda Hotel Association and bartenders.
The stakeholder group has created a plan that introduces a structured approach to bartending services by establishing various levels of expertise. The highest tier, known as the Ambassador/ Bartender Trainer, consists of internationally accredited professionals specializing in specific areas of bar services or brand training. These top-tier professionals are not only experts in their field but are also equipped to train others, enhancing the overall skill level within the industry.
Bartender Levels 1 to 3, cater to varying degrees of experience and expertise. Bartender Level 3 is for those with significant experience and international bartending accreditation, capable of managing advanced tasks such as inventory control and staff training. Bartender Level 2 is designed for those with intermediate experience and skills, including the ability to handle advanced customer service and POS systems. Bartender Level 1 is targeted towards newcomers to the industry, focusing on foundational skills and basic bartending knowledge.
For those starting their journey in the bartending profession, the Bar Back / Bar Porter / Assistant Bartender level provides an entry point with no prior experience required. This level is essential for building the foundation of a future career in bartending, offering an introduction to the industry.
